Brickell
Brickell, just south from Downtown Miami, is the financial center of Miami and one of the most popular places for residents to live. It makes up what many now consider one of the more memorable skylines of North America and consists of condos built since 2005. These condos are famous for their world-class amenities and unbeatable views of Biscayne Bay and greater Miami. For those looking for an urban center with a vibrant restaurant and bar scene, Brickell is ideal. Mary Brickell Village is hopping every day of the week and right at your doorstep. The Metrorail runs through Brickell allowing easy direct access to both the hospital and the airport. More expensive than other neighborhoods, Brickell has modern buildings, most of which have a built-in gym, pool, doorman and other amenities. Smaller, less modern buildings can be found nearby for cheaper. Buildings that are popular include The Plaza, Icon, 1050/1060 Brickell, Vue, and Axis to name a few. Some residents choose to live with roommates to save money, or avoid having a car due to the ease of using public transportation to commute.
South Beach
In contrast to what people may see in movies or on TV, residents of the beach see it more as a quiet ocean-side community. Free time can be spent people-watching on Ocean Ave and Lincoln Road, jogging along South Pointe Park and the beach, and at free outdoor concerts and movies at the New World Symphony. There are a few all-inclusive high-rise buildings within a resident's budget, but there are also many smaller duplexes and townhouses to choose from. The buildings on the beach are generally older than those in Brickell, so all of the added amenities (pool, gym, etc. ) may not necessarily be included. Most residents choose to live on West Ave along the bay and live in 650 West, The Waverly of South Beach, The Flamingo, or Mirador 1000/1200. Although there is no public transportation from the beach to the hospital, it is a quick commute down the Macarthur Causeway with cruise ships, celebrity homes, and water on either side.
Coral Gables /Coconut Grove
Coral Gables and the Grove are made up of mostly quiet residential areas best suited to families or those looking for a house or duplex. It has the most neighborhood-type feel of any of the Miami living areas and is great for dog walking or raising children. Nightlife is centered around CocoWalk, an open-air plaza with bars, great restaurants and shopping, as well as Miracle Mile. Historic establishments like The Biltmore and the University of Miami undergraduate campus make this area of Miami desirable for young families. The hospital is accessible by Metrorail or is a quick 15-minute commute by car.
Downtown Miami
Just a few minutes from the Health District, the condos of coastal Downtown Miami are popular options among residents. Pricing is slightly more affordable than Brickell with similar amenities. Downtown has some large department stores, supermarkets, many dining options and night life, as well as parks with waterfront views and high rise condos on the bay. Nightlife abounds in Downtown, with frequent games or concerts at the American Airlines Arena, shows at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, and the shops/restaurants at Bayside.
Midtown/Design District
This is the new, up and coming area of Miami. Those looking for the amenities and glitz of Brickell with a smaller price tag should look here. It is a short commute to/from the hospital and can also offer stunning views of the bay. This area is quickly becoming a trendy area of Miami known for fine dining, great shopping, and amazing art galleries. One of the most popular events is the monthly Wynwood Art Walk in which an army of food trucks descend on the Design District, and the art galleries open up to the public with free wine. It is also famous for the international art festival, Art Basel, every year. There are a number of new buildings in the area with all of the usual amenities included - pool, gym, doorman, etc.
